WINTER SESSION 2019

BLOG POST #3,341 AT THE AICP-END

317 DAYS UNTIL ELECTION DAY 2020

HANUKKAH 2019 DAY THREE

CHRISTMAS EVE!  PEACE ON EARTH, GOOD WILL TO HUMANITY!

History always seems to repeat itself; we are lucky whenever we are able to see it, be a part of it…
Oildale, CA 93308, 12-24-2019 Tuesday:  Good morning, friends, welcome to the Christmas Eve and Hanukkah Day No. 3 edition of our fine blog.  We are in the midst of undergoing some changes we hope will be for the best.  The biggest of these changes is that over at the secondary blog, we are testing a format that will be devoid of almost all of the normal photos we usually present.  We hope it will make for speedier loading so that fans won’t have to go through the usual rigamarole in doing a quick ‘save as’ to freeze the page so after 2-3 minutes, they can read it at their leisure.
Photos do mean a lot, especially when it comes to doing “Today in History” as well as the musical offerings.  We love promoting music just as we love doing a timeline of history for any given day because besides trying to entertain and to fascinate the readership, we also want to educate them.
You see, education is what separates men from beasts and we hope that we do an excellent job of providing newsworthy information as well as alerting the readership as to when we do opinion commentary as unlike the mainstream, fake news media, we do not want to corrupt or shape thought unless one acts upon information we provide and come to one’s own conclusions.
Moreover, we always provide our political affiliations with everyone so there is no doubt as to where any of us stands.  You would think others would emulate our success because there would be NO fake news if every news consumer understood where the news and opinion begins.
Moving on, the Democrats seek to label President Trump a “king” and to continue bashing us over the head with the trope that “No one is above the law, not even a president.”  Come on, Dems, you all know that Barack Hussein Obama was ‘above the law’ and you rallied the wagons around him to always protect him just as you rally the wagons around others from his administration like Brennan, Clapper, and Comey, the Three Stooges.
Julius Caesar did not choose to become a dictator, his political opponents forced him into becoming one.  He fought a long brutal war in Gaul as the governor there and over the decade he served, the politics of Rome had changed.
First, his strongest ally and one third of the First Triumvirate, Marcus Crassus, had gone east to subjugate the Parthians and ended up becoming ill and killed along with much of his army when he led it into a trap from which, there was no escape.
The second triumvir, Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus, allowed the enemies of Caesar to pull him away from his father-in-law after Julia- Caesar’s daughter- died in childbirth.  The loss of his beautiful young wife and infant son left the famed general bereft of his senses and so the enemies of Caesar wheedled and wheedled him away from the third triumvir, Caesar.
Caesar had already been counsel just as he had been one-third of the First Triumvirate, a threesome of then-like-minded ambitious men who managed to maintain the peace at home through Pompey’s presence while the other two campaigned and enriched themselves abroad.
The enemies of Caesar- and there were many- jealous of his success, his good looks, his uncannily political instincts, and the fact that he slept with the wives of those intent on destroying him- drove them to a point where once Caesar sought to come home to stand for counsel a second time, they planned on arresting, trying, imprisoning, and destroying him and his family.
As he stood north of the Rubicon River, the boundary separating a governor and his imperium- the enormous power of the law as demonstrated by the fasces- from being an equal citizen of Rome, Caesar debated these facts.  To run for counsel again, he had to stand before his fellow senators in Rome and declare his intentions.
However, once he crossed the Rubicon River, his enemies readied to arrest and try him so the question in his mind was what to do, what to do?  He arrived at the conclusion that there was one thing to do and so crossed the Rubicon with one legion of loyal troops- the Thirteenth- to guarantee he had protection from arrest.
As Caesar and his legion marched south, people flocked to his banner because Caesar was indeed a man of the people.  He was a populist, unlike many of his equals, he had grown up in an insula, aka an ‘island’- an apartment building that his grandparents on both sides agreed to buying so that the new married couple could achieve success on their own by being successful landlords.  It also meant that their children could grow up among the people.
The Caesar Family name had fallen upon challenging times and was economically in trouble.  However, the name still had enormous value and so his maternal grandparents married their daughter- reputedly the most beautiful woman in all of Rome- Aurelia to Julius’ father and so the son grew up among the people, all manner of them, Arabs, Greeks, Africans, Hebrews, freedmen-and-women, and numerous other nationalities.
We will leave off here but what I will leave you with is that Caesar was an enormous man, one of great intellect, compassion, sexuality, and bravado.  The people loved him and he loved them, something his enemies despised and among the reasons they sought to destroy this upstart.
Thanks for joining me today;  I appreciate your attendance.  Have a wonderful Christmas Eve as well as Hanukkah, and we will pick back up tomorrow on Christmas Day.  God bless you all.
